FEATURED CAMPUS

San Diego State University

As the #1 small research university in the United States for the past two years, San Diego State University (SDSU) boasts diverse instructors and researchers who are on a global stage. When it comes to student population, SDSU is just as, if not more, diverse. According to James Tarbox, Ph.D., Director of SDSU Career Services, the university enrolls students from varied backgrounds who otherwise might not have the opportunity to access a top quality education. “This mix of student and professor populations creates a learning atmosphere of excellence and accessibility – something of which we are very proud.”   In the past three years that Tarbox and the Career Services have been working wtih Vector Marketing – the relationship has improved. “Since I arrived at SDSU, I have seen a real, intentional effort on behalf of Vector Marketing to reposition themselves as a leader in student work opportunities.” Vector strives to remain transparent with the students and for those who are ready for the challenge; it provides an unparalleled learning opportunity. According to Amanda Perriera, Vector’s western region campus relations manager, SDSU students have long been excelling professionally with Vector Marketing. Nearly 700 of the campus’s students have sold Cutco since 1999, including several district managers, branch managers, field sales managers and award winners. SDSU students have also won several College Bowl competitions over the past five years with more than $11,000 awarded to the university.   Barr adds that Tarbox and others at SDSU have really taken the initiative to learn about Vector’s opportunity – attending Vector representative conferences with colleagues from campuses such as UCLA so that they can better inform their students and staffs. “Just this past fall, I attended the Western Region kick-off event. I knew that if the students took advantage of all the opportunity had to offer, that they’d benefit tremendously, but I really hadn’t grasped the scope of what our students have actually accomplished with the company. To watch the energy, accomplishments and professionalism was very gratifying,” commented Tarbox.   Tarbox agrees that the Vector opportunity isn’t for everyone. He added that for those who really understand what this opportunity is about – they’re going to benefit greatly not just when they’re ready to job hunt after graduation but in the time they still have left on campus as well.   Some of the many SDSU students and alum who have found success with Vector include:
  • Jesse Long – District Manager in South San Diego
  • Jeffrey Wegman – Branch Manager in Santa Cruz, CA (summer 2008)
  • Lidia Litvin – Branch Manager in El Centro, CA (summer 2009)

  • Candice Gomez – Field Sales Manager
